Man Filming, Abusing Couple Over Religious Identity Arrested by Saifabad Police
Hyderabad Man Arrested for Assault, Harassment and Inciting Communal Enmity in Viral Video Incident
Hyderabad, August 2, 2025:
In a serious case of public harassment and communal provocation, the Saifabad Police arrested a 24-year-old man, Mohammed Raheel, for assaulting a young couple and circulating a video aimed at inciting religious enmity. The incident occurred on July 29, 2025, around 3:45 AM near the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Statue on NTR Marg, Hyderabad.
The victim, Neeraj, an IT professional, filed a complaint stating that while he and his 24-year-old female colleague (a Muslim woman) were heading home, they were confronted by the accused. Raheel allegedly recorded them without consent, hurled abusive communal remarks, assaulted both physically, and questioned the woman’s presence with a man of another religion despite wearing a hijab. He also threw Neeraj’s helmet at him before following them aggressively to Himayat Nagar while continuing to record.
The video was later uploaded to social media platforms like Instagram and X, where it went viral, raising serious concerns about privacy violations, moral policing, and incitement to communal disharmony.
Police launched a swift investigation, identified the accused using CCTV footage, and arrested him near Charminar. His mobile phone and two-wheeler used during the incident were seized. During interrogation, Raheel confessed to the crime. He has been booked under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the IT Act, including charges of criminal intimidation, assault, wrongful restraint, and promoting religious hatred.
Authorities emphasized that the video exposed the identity of the victims, especially the woman, thereby violating their privacy, dignity, and safety. The police made it clear that no one has the right to harass or moral police others based on personal or religious grounds.
Public Advisory:
Police have cautioned citizens against sharing or reacting to such provocative videos. Doing so may lead to legal consequences under cyber and criminal laws. Citizens are urged to report such content directly to the authorities instead of spreading it further.
The arrest was made under the supervision of DCP Central Zone K. Shilpavalli, IPS, and was led by ACP R. Sanjay Kumar along with officers from Saifabad Police Station.
This incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for responsible social media use and firm action against those who attempt to disturb communal harmony through hate-driven content.
