_Food Safety Inspections Uncover Unhygienic Practices in Bhadradri-Kothagudem District_

Bhadradri-Kothagudem, May 27, 2024: Special teams conducted food safety inspections in the district on May 27, 2024, and found several food establishments violating food safety norms.

1.At Raghavendra Hotel Tiffins & Meals, Bhadrachalam, the team discovered several violations, including:

- The FSSAI License copy was not displayed at any prominent location of the premises.
- Idly batter (8kg) and boiled milk (5L) in which houseflies were traced were discarded.

- Proper hygiene is not maintained within the cooking area.
- Food handlers were found without proper hairnets, aprons, and gloves.
- Cooked and raw food is not covered with lids.

- No pest control measures are being followed by the Hotel Management.
- Prepared food is kept under the roof with spider webs, and oil deposition is found falling from the roof.

2.At Sri Gauthami Spice Restaurant, Bhadrachalam, the team found:

- 10 kgs of prepared dough found fungal-infested and discarded.

- Usage of synthetic food colors was traced.
- Food handlers found without wearing haircaps, gloves, and aprons; annual medical records not found.

- Open drainage and dustbins without lids placed nearby cooked food.

- Improper storage of cooked and raw food, veg and non-veg food without lids, exposed to flies and other pests.

At Town House (Sri Bhadra Grand), the team found:

- Fungal infested ice cream (88 Lt) worth Rs. 39,600/- and rotten eggs stored in the refrigerator.

- Synthetic food colors used in food preparation.
- Improper storage of semi-prepared and raw food articles in the refrigerator, with inadequate temperature control.

- Food handlers not wearing haircaps, gloves, and aprons, and lacking medical fitness certificates.
- No pest control records or water analysis reports available for RO water used for cooking and drinking.

- Kitchen premises open to the outside environment, allowing pests or flies to enter, and dustbins found open without lids.
The inspections highlight the need for stricter enforcement of food safety regulations to protect public health. The district administration has warned the establishments to improve their hygiene standards and adhere to food safety norms to avoid legal action.
