HYDERABAD: A 20-year-old woman, who was pursuing MBBS in Russia, died in a road accident in Gachibowli police station limits. Her male friend, who was driving the car allegedly under the influence of alcohol, went on to hit the car to a tree. This is the second case of alleged drunken driving in the city in the last two days, which led to death of three persons.
Gachibowli police said that P Priyanka, a resident of Madhura Nagar, died on the spot while her friend Mithi Modi, a BA student who is from Visakhapatnam, escaped unhurt.
Based on the complaint given by Priyanka’s family members a case was registered against Mithi under 304 II (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of IPC. "When we made Mithi undergo the Blood Alcohol Count (BAC) test his reading was found to be 44 mg," Gachibowli Inspector Srinivas told . The permissible limit is 30 mg/ 100 ml.
After the outbreak of corona, Priyanka returned to Hyderabad from Georhia in Russia where she is pursuing 3rd year of MBBS.

Both Priyanka and Mithi who were classmates when they were children, lost touch all these years. It was in the last few days they got re-united through common friends.

On Sunday Priyanka and a couple of other friends met in a pub at Jubilee Hills. Later they called Mithi, who is already in Hyderabad from last few days ago, to join them in the pub.
After the pub was shut, all the four started in Mithi’s car. Mithi and Priyanka dropped the other two at their nearby residence. Later Mithi and Priyanka decided to go on drive. First they went to Durgam Cheruvvu hanging flyover and later the mishap took place near Hyderabad Central University.
"It looks that Mithi, who is new to the roads in this area, got confused and also lost control over the vehicle and hit a road side tree. Priyanka died on the spot," Srinivas said. Police said that Srinivas is being produced before a magistrate.
On Saturday late night in Kharkhana police station limits, two persons travelling in a car died in a suspected case of drunken driving.
